Congratulations on the expected completion of your Baccalaureate Degree this semester! I know you must be anticipating graduation day with a sense of pride and accomplishment
In 1986, an ASNMU initiative resulted in the inclusion of a student speaker at the December and May graduations. The student speaker address, five minutes in length, is in addition to the main graduation address. Many graduates and family members attending previous graduations have commented on the excellence of the student address and how much more meaningful it made the ceremonies for them. As your graduation day draws near, I invite you to consider applying to be the student speaker at the ceremony
Student commencement speaker applications are available at the ASNMU office located at 1203 University Center, the Dean of Students office located at 2001 C.B. Hedgcock Building, or from the link found below. All applications must be turned in to the Dean of Students office by Thursday, November 12, 2009, by 5:00 p.m. All applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from members of the University community, at least one of which is a faculty member. Applicants will be contacted to schedule an audition which will be held on a date to be determined during the week of November 16th.
I hope you will give strong consideration to applying and auditioning for the honor of presenting the student commencement address. Please refer to the tips provided to assist in preparing your student commencement speech. If you have any questions please contact the Dean of Students office at 227‑1704.
Sincerely,
