Junoon Closes 2009 UNITED Conference

Junoon, the Pakistani rock band that is one of the most popular  bands in the world, closed a jam-packed  2009 UNITED Conference and opened the 2009-10 NMU International Performing Arts Series. Conference Highlights

From Troubled Teen to Teacher
NMU Platform Personalities co-sponsored Sharaud Moore, a member of the original Freedom Writres Project, who shared with UNITED Conference attendees his story of going from being a trouble-making student to a dynamic teacher.

 Artist Sam English
Native American artist Sam English discussed his new book, his work and his efforts working to help people get past their addictions in a session at the 2009 UNITED Conference.  

Pieces of a Puzzle
Sarah Vazquez gave a keynote address that highlighted her  Puerto Rican heritage and experiences overcoming barriers to success with cerebral palsy.

Vincent Who?
Sook Wilkinson, NMU Board of Trustees member and chair of Governor’s Advisory Council on Asian Pacific American Affairs  made her second appearance at a UNITED Conference. Dr. Wilkinson  explored the historically important Vincent Chin Case of 26 years ago and the state of Asian American empowerment.

There are seven UNITED tracks: UNITED in art, dance/music, diversity, film, food and research/scholarship, and service.
