Men's Ice Hockey

The Northern Michigan Men's Club Hockey team is apart of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).  The Men's portion of the ACHA is divided up into three (3) divisions.  NMU is currently playing in Division 2, while also playing as an independent, which means it is currently not playing as a part of a conference.  This allows for easier scheduling of games.  The team has games throughout the country in various states such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and also various schools in the lower peninsula of Michigan.  During the upcoming 2009 - 2010 season, the team has a 38 game schedule featuring many tough teams that were ranked in the previous year.  Opening weekend will again feature the 2nd Annual Wildcat Hockey Invitational, with some new teams this season.  Returning for a 2nd time are annual participants St. Norbert's College JV, Michigan Tech University and Lake Superior State University.  New teams featured in this year's tournament are Northwood University (Midland, Michigan) and Delta College (Saginaw, Michigan).  Entering each and every season, the team always has high hopes of making the ACHA regional tournament and then moving on to compete in the ACHA national tournament in hopes of bringing home a national title.  The team carries a 20+ man roster with 1 coach and a manager.

Dues
Dues during the 2009 - 2010 season will range around $1,600, which includes ice time, referees, a hat, a gear bag, and a travel duffel bag. Members are also required to purchase a PEIF pass for the year.

Participants Must Supply
Each player is required to have full equipment:
o       Helmet (green matching)
o       Gloves (green matching - supplied by team)
o       Pants (green matching)
o       Shin pads
o       Elbow pads
o       Groin protection
o       Shoulder Pads
o       Socks (green matching - supplied by team)
o       Jersey (supplied by the team - home and away)   
o       Mouthguard
o       Earpiece for helmet

Travel
Games are usually played Friday evening, Saturday afternoon or evening, and Sunday mornings. The team often travels to Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinoies, Lower Michigan, and Wisconsin. There will be occasional trips to Ohio, Nebraska, Kentucky, Colorado, and Arizona.
