Dance
The NMU Dance Club is made up of dedicated and talented young women who wish to represent the university in a positive and spirited manner. Members on our team have a diverse background including classical ballet, hip-hop dance, cheerleading squads, gymnastics, kick lines and elite pompon programs. This diversity makes our team remarkable because we draw on each others’ strengths to succeed. As a team member, we have the opportunity to perform at some home football games, home volleyball games, home men’s and women’s basketball games and various university and community functions. Through performances, appearances, and volunteer activities the Northern Michigan University Dance Club serves as NMU ambassadors.
Dues
$100 - Dues are used for costume pieces and props, as well as for events such as homecoming and travel costs.
Participants Must Supply
Each member must purchase their own shoes, practice clothes and various uniform pieces. NMU Dance Club members are also required to purchase a PEIF pass for the year.
Travel
The Dance Club does not perform at away games but is occasionally invited to perform throughout the community.
Fall Tryouts
Saturday, September 12, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (check-in begins at 8:30a.m.).
Practices: Held in the PEIF Dance Studio
Tuesdays 9-11 p.m.
Sundays 8-11 p.m.
Thursdays 9-11 p.m. (*These will be held as needed)
Additional Requirements
At auditions each participant should be prepared to do pirouettes, kicks, toe touches, and various other jumps and turns (leaps, axels, calypsos, etc.). A hip hop and/or jazz routine will also be expected. All technique and choreography will be reviewed and taught at the audition- it is not necessary to prepare your own material. Team members are held to high technical and performance standards; focus will be placed on technical competency and ability to quick study and perform choreography.
