Saturday Morning Snowshoe Series

Once a month, our staff lead participants into some of the most beautiful country in the Marquette area.  Whether you have never tried on a pair of snowshoes in your life, or it's one of your favorite pastimes, this trip is sure to please! Destinations include Little Garlic Falls, Mount Marquette, and Hogback Mountain.  A trip packing list and clothing suggestions will be handed out upon registration.

Lead Climbing Certification

Top rope climbing not challenging enough for you?  The ORCP can push you to new heights with our lead climbing clinics.  This program provides you with a great base for the sport of lead climbing.  It also certifies you to lead climb at our wall.  This program is run twice a semester.  Program numbers are limited.  If you desire a spot in this course, sign-up today!

February 24 & April 13
10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Cost: $15 per lesson.
Experience level: Advanced

Spring 2008 Superior Climbing Competition click here

Ready to push yourself against fellow climbers in a competitive environment?  Come participate in the superior climbing competition!  Participants will be scored on number of attempts for each route and degree of difficulty.  Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the competition to top finishers and there will also be a raffle at the end of the awards ceremony.  Also, you will receive a competition T-shirt.

March 22, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Cost: $20 Pre-registration, $25 after March 15
Divisions:
    Youth: 6-12 Years old
    Teen: 13-17 Years old
    Adult: 18 And up
    * Within the teen and adult divisions participants may enter as intermediate or       advanced climbers.

Early Bird Spring Backpacking Trip

Spring has already officially started so get outside and celebrate with a weekend backpacking trip! Picture Rocks National Lakeshore is one of the most spectacular back country backpacking areas around! ORCP staff will guide you through some of the most beautiful country in the U.P.  Sign-up on your own or with a group of friends, but hurry because space is limited. Cost includes the use of ORCP gear as well as transportation.  Participants supply their own food.  Plan for three meals a day and snacks.  Ask for a trip information packet when you register.  The ORCP practices Leave No Trace ethics and encourages participants to remember to "pack it in, pack it out."

April 4-6
Depart 3 p.m. Friday, return approximately 5 p.m. Sunday
Cost: $25 (includes gear, transportation, and back country permits)
Experience level: Beginner to Intermediate

Spring 2008 Bouldering Craze

Got cabin fever? It's time to let the crazies out before spring hits.  We will have bouldering routes of varying difficulties set for participants.  Staff will be spotting all climbers.  Participants will be graded based on number of attempts on each route and speed.  The climber with the best score walks away with the top prize! Shoes and chalk will be available for rental on a first come first serve basis.

April 19, 1-5 p.m.
Cost: $5 per climber
Experience level: All levels


Private and Semi-Private Climbing Lessons

ORCP staff members are available for teaching lessons.  Lessons include four consecutive sessions of two hour long classes, designed to fit your schedule.  Simply call us up with a day and time that you have in mind, and we'll match you with a highly qualified staff member who will work with you as you grow as a climber.  Private lessons are a nice way to take timeout just for you during a busy week.

Trippin' the Traverse

What do you mean you haven't bouldered at the traverse yet?  Maybe you don't have your own crash pad, or maybe you just don't know where it is-whatever the reason you should definitely join us for this trip!  ORCP staff will pack up the vans with our crash pads and head out to the Traverse for an afternoon of fun in the sun.  This is Marquette climbing at its finest! Crash pads and chalk are provided.  Bring your own shoes, sunscreen and a snack and get ready to rock out!

April 19, Noon-5 p.m.
Cost: $3 for PEIF rec members, $5 for non-members
Experience level: Intermediate to Advanced


The Three R's: Rest, Relaxation, and Rocks!

Take time out for yourself before a hectic week of exams.  When your body gets the exercise and rest that it deserves, your brain functions better so this program is designed to rev you up and calm you down during that critical weekend before exam week starts.  Join our staff for an invigorating yoga warm up session, some intense climbing, and a slow, relaxing yoga cool down.  You'll feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to tackle some last minute study hours.  Equipment is included in the price, but feel free to bring your own. (Please be sure to bring socks for this program due to the rule of no bare feet on the crash pads).

Tope Rope Certification

Want to learn the ropes of the climbing wall?  Come join the ORCP staff for our  belay certification lessons.  No experience is necessary but some climbing time at our wall is very helpful.  Belay certification participants can come in during any partner climb for their first lesson.  After your first lesson you can then come back during any of our regularly scheduled hours to get your check-off lesson.  After this you are free to belay at the ORCP climbing wall.

Ladies Night at the Climbing Wall!

Every Wednesday night starting again January 16!!

Kid's Climb Fridays!

Need a fun family activity for Friday night?  Come join the ORCP crew at the climbing wall for an evening of adventure. Every Friday from 5-8 p.m. let the kids go crazy!  This is a family friendly program to help teach the sport of climbing to the next generation.
