NMU Learn to Swim Program: 2009 - 2010

The NMU Rec Sports Department is proud to offer the 2009 American Red Cross version of Learn to Swim - swimming lessons. Our certified instructors will guide the swimmer through appropriate swimming levels so that greater safety and swim skills are achieved. To register, call 906-227-2519 or stop by PEIF office 126 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.


Private and Semi-Private Lessons

Private classes are for anyone interested in one-on-one swim lessons.  Instructors will design each lesson specifically with the student in mind.  You and your instructor can choose the best available time.  Semi-private lessons consist of a small group from two to four swimmers of about the same skill level.

Days:
Saturdays, Noon-1p.m., or you can schedule with your instructor.

Cost: 
Private - $90.00 (One person) for six half hour sessions
Semi-private - $45 each for six lessons

$50 Faculty/Staff/Student  
$65 Community

Saturday and Sundays Only: Sep. 19, 26. Oct. 3, 10, 24, 31
     Saturdays: 9 a.m. - Noon
     Sundays: 4 - 6 p.m.

Winter Class Dates
Saturdays Only: Jan. 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13, 20, Mar. 13, 20

Class Descriptions

Wildcats (Level 1) - Intro to Water Skills

  • Begin to develop positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices in and around water.

Tigers (Level 2) - Fundamental Aquatic Skills

  • Learn to float without support and recover to a vertical position.

Shock (Level 3) - Stroke Development

  • Build on skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice in deeper water.

Lions (Level 4) - Stroke Improvement

  • To develop participants confidence in strokes learned in Level 3 and improve other aquatic skills.

Pistons (Level 5) - Stroke Refinement

  • To further learn how to coordinate and refine strokes.

Redwings (Level 6) - Fitness Swimmer

  • Refine strokes so participants swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
