Dan Waterman enters his fourth season as an assistant basketball coach with the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team.
Waterman spent three seasons (2003-06) as the boy’s basketball coach at Westwood High School, where he was 41-24. His 2004-05 team was the Mid-Peninsula Conference co-champions and ranked fourth in the final Associated Press Class C poll. For that season, Waterman was named the AP Michigan Class C Coach of the Year and the Upper Peninsula Class A-B-C Coach of the Year. The team was recognized as the Upper Peninsula Class C Team of the Year.
Waterman was also the junior varsity (1999-2003), freshman (1998-99) and assistant boy’s varsity coach at Westwood (1997-2003). During the 2002-03 season, he served Ellis as a student-assistant coach at NMU. Waterman has worked as a coach at basketball camps at Westwood, Alma College and at the B.U.C.S. Camp.
He graduated from Westwood in 1994 before moving on to Michigan Tech where he was a three-year letterwinner on the men’s basketball team. Waterman was a two-year starter for the Huskies and was named to the GLIAC all-defensive team as a junior.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from NMU in social studies/history in 2003. Waterman is currently pursuing his master’s degree.
He and his wife, Pam, have two sons, Jason and Caleb. They also have twins Keira and Kyle who were born in April 2009.
