The purpose of the Northern Michigan University Sports Hall of Fame is to recognize athletes (or teams if they have won the championship that is awarded by their National Sports Governing Body) who have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics, either by virtue or their performance on athletic teams representing NMU or by meritorious efforts in behalf of athletics either as an undergraduate or in years after leaving the University. Consideration is also given to those who have made other significant contributions to the NMU athletic programs.
Nominees, if an athlete, must have departed NMU at least 10 years prior. Coaches, administrators, and other nominees are not bound by a time limit. Current NMU coaches and staff are not eligible for consideration. The NMU Sports Hall of Fame selection committee accepts nominations through March 1, and then meets to select the inductees.
