This course was a collaborative project of the Nursing and Health and Physical Education Recreation departments. It provided students with the opportunity to partake in an elective course that combined diversity and service learning experiences. Students had the opportunity to learn about the culture of Honduras with a particular focus on the health and healthcare of the people of Honduras. More information

NE 495: Alternative and Complementary Health Care in Peru
This was a four-credit elective course that provided students with a cultural immersion experience focusing on complementary and alternative healing modalities in both an academic and field setting in Peru. Students had an opportunity to learn about the culture of Peru while learning about the five major areas of complementary and alternative medicine, as outlined by the National Institute of Health: alternative healthcare systems, mind-body interventions, biologically-based therapies, manipulative and body-based healing methods, and energy therapies. The experience focused on the various healthcare modalities available in Peru as provided by shamans, herbists and midwives.

NE 495: South Africa/Response HIV
Students participated in a faculty-led study abroad experience to South Africa. They immersed themselves in the South African culture while learning about and responding to the HIV epidemic.
