As of the fall of 2008, all Northern Michigan University students admitted into the Practical Nursing or Bachelor of Science Nursing programs will be required to have a criminal background check. This is necessary because many of the medical agencies where students do their clinical work require all employees and workers in the facility, including students, to have a clean criminal background check. The School of Nursing has contracted with a local agency that will do the check and maintain the records. The students will pay the small fee directly to the company. Students will be provided more information upon admissions to the program.
