Post Master's Certificate Admission Policies
College of Graduate Studies Admission Requirements
- Complete an Application for Admission from the College of Graduate Studies and submit the application to the College of Graduate Studies, 309 Cohodas, along with a $25.00 application fee. Admission materials are available here.
- Students must be admitted to NMU before being admitted to Department of Nursing, Post Master’s FNP Certificate Program.
- Send official transcripts from all universities previously attended (with the exception of NMU) directly to the College of Graduate Studies.
- MSN with a 3.0 GPA from an accredited nursing program.
Computer Requirements
Students are required to participate in NMU’s notebook computer program and must have access to a high-speed Internet connection. Students should be proficient in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, e-mail and accessing the internet.
Nurse Educator Post Master’s Certificate Admission Requirements
Applicants are required to comply with the regular admission requirements of the College of Graduate Studies. Additional requirements include:
- MSN from a nationally accredited nursing program
- A minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
- A current unrestricted RN license
- Current experience as a professional RN.
- Three references from professional colleagues (forms provided: recommendation form, cover sheet)
- One page typed narrative of the applicant’s professional experience and future professional goals
Applicants must complete both a NMU graduate admission application and a post master’s nurse educator program admission application by July 15. The completed NMU graduate application is submitted to the College of Graduate Studies, 401 Cohodas, along with a $50.00 application fee. The post master’s nurse educator program application is submitted to the NMU School of Nursing, 2301 New Science Facility. Mail completed applications to the School of Nursing. Applications received after July 15 will be considered on a space available basis.
Post Master’s FNP Certificate Program Admission Requirements
- Complete an application for admission to the post-master’s FNP certificate program and submit the application to the Department of Nursing, MSN Program, 2301 New Science Facility, Marquette, Michigan 49855. Application materials are available at http://www.nmu.edu/department.nursing.htm.
- Current unrestricted Michigan RN license or eligibility for RN licensure in Michigan. Attach a copy of your RN license to the application.
- One-year of current professional experience as a registered nurse (RN) within the past three years. Attach a current resume to the application.
- Three letters of recommendation from professional colleagues. Please use the MSN recommendation forms provided.
- One page typed narrative of the applicant’s professional experience and future professional goals.
- Computer proficiency – using Microsoft Word, Power Point, E-mail, and accessing the internet (must have an internet connection) as some courses are offered online.
Post Admission Requirements for the Teaching Practicum Experiences
Students must provide the School of Nursing current evidence of the following prior to their clinical rotations:
- A current unrestricted RN license
- TB Skin test (yearly), MMR, Hepatitis B and tetanus (booster every 10 years)
- CPR certification
