As a licensed practical nurse you've already experienced the rewards of a career of caring for people as a trained health professional. Now you can fortify your skills and prepare for a wider field of career opportunities by continuing your studies and earning a bachelor of science in nursing.
The LPN to BSN program follows the same academic plan and requirements as the Traditional-Track BSN program
, except that those who already have an LPN license may be granted up to 12 advanced placement credits toward the 129 required for the degree.
Beginning in Fall 1999, students with an LPN license who request admission to the BSN program, and who have graduated from LPN program within five years of admission into the BSN program and/or who have worked as an LPN within five years of admission into the BSN program, will be granted, without testing, advanced placement credit for: NE201 (4 credits), NE202 (1 credit) and NE204 (2 credits).
NMU graduates will receive general elective credit for PN/AH 102: Growth and Development (3 credits).
LPN student applicants who have not practiced as an LPN and have graduated more than five years prior to admission will be required to successfully complete challenge exams for advance placement credit.
LPN student applicants will continue to be permitted to take the NLN Pharmacology placement exam for advance placement credit for NE212. Graduates of NMU's LPN. program will receive credit for NE 212 (2 credits).
Students must submit a copy of their current LPN license prior to acceptance into the BSN program.
Northern's LPN to BSN track can be completed either full-time or part-time. Courses are generally offered in fall and winter semesters with select courses in the summer. An adviser from the School of Nursing will assist you in planning an academic program to complete the required courses.
