Mining continues to be a way of life for many Upper Peninsula residents and it remains in the spotlight. The Empire and Tilden mines continue to change with the times and new mines and mining exploration create controversy and economic opportunity. Mining in Michigan: A Catalog of Company Publications, 1845-1980, by Le Roy Barnett (1983), provides readers insight into the U.P.'s mining tradition and how it evolved throughout the years.
