224 ~ Medical and Nuclear Waste - Where Does it Go?

The session will begin with ½ hr update by Gary Muller, the CEO of MGHS. He will include the six strategies of their 2008-2011 Strategic Journey: patient service, financial stewardship, people, clinical\ excellence, regional resource, and physician relationships. Alyson, an officer at prior federal closure sites involving hazardous waste cleanup and currently MGH’s safety and risk manager, will give us a tour andspeak on what happens to the medical, nuclear, and hazardous wastes generated in their healthcare system. Did you ever wonder how those infectious dressings, radioactive materials, and bloody surgical materials were disposed of and what the final destination is?
