MiAPPA Summer Conference Special Activities

Along with the professional development presentations, there are many special events being planned for the conference, including Spouses' and children’s programs. 

Other activities scheduled are:

MONDAY:

Mine Tour

A tour of the Empire & Tilden mines, open pit iron ore mines partially owned and operated by Cliffs Natural Resources, is planned for the morning of Monday, July 18, 2011.  The mines are located in Ishpeming, Michigan approximately 20 miles west of Marquette; the mines employ approximately 1,700 people.  On this tour you will see the entire mine operation including an up close look at the pit, equipment and processing plant.  Transportation will by provided by University Bus with pick-up at each of the participating conference hotels. Pick-up times to be determined.

Long pants, shirts with sleeves and closed toe shoes are required for this tour. The tour is limited to the first 35 MiAPPA members and at this time is not ADA accessible.  Photography and videography are not permitted.

Golf Outing
A MiAPPA Golf Outing will take place at the NMU Golf Course (www.nmu.edu/golfcourse) beginning at 2 p.m., Monday July 18.  The cost will be $50.00 which includes a cart and lunch.  Lunch will be provided at the course between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

TUESDAY:

MiAAPA Dinner and White Water Performance
The conference dinner will take place Tuesday evening in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center.  The social will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner at 6:30 p.m.  Following the dinner, the folk music group White Water Associates, Inc. will perform.
