Things to keep in mind when completing the study abroad cost worksheet form:

  • Any item with an asterisk next to it means you must provide supporting documentation.
  • Airfare can be an estimate from Orbitz, STA Travel, Cheapfares etc.
  • Once form is filled out you must bring it to International Programs to have it signed by the coordinator-education abroad.
  • Then you must make an appointment with the designated financial aid officer:

Candy Ingalls, senior financial aid officer
2107 C.B. Hedgcock

cingalls@nmu.edu

Financial aid normally disburses around the first week of classes and there are other up-front costs that you often must pay for before your aid is disbursed, including:

  • airfare
  • passport/visa costs
  • International Student I.D. Card
  • additional medical insurance – if needed
  • deposits required to confirm program placement, housing, etc.

Your financial aid will first be applied to the cost of your NMU tuition/study abroad program fee.  Any available overage amount will be issued as a check made out to you and must be applied toward the additional costs associated with your study abroad.

Please make sure several weeks before you leave for your study abroad program that your financial aid is all set and that you do not have to provide any additional information.  If you expect a loan check to come in after you depart, please verify that your power of attorney can sign the loan check (or whether you will need to make arrangements for the check to be mailed to you directly).

If you have any questions regarding this document, please contact International Programs at 906-227-2510.  Or e-mail ipo@nmu.edu.
