Summer is coming sooner than you think, and with it your chance to participate in a short-term study abroad. A faculty-led study abroad program has many advantages
It’s not too late for Summer 2009. Several programs are still accepting applications and deposits through the end of March. These include:
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA - Earn 2 credits of Survival Spanish for Travelers as you travel with Professor Amy Orf (aorf@nmu.edu ) to exciting Buenos Aires. May 29-June 15. Approximate fee: $1,500 in addition to airfare, personal spending, and 2 credits of NMU summer tuition.
VIENNA, AUSTRIA - Earn 7-8 NMU credits of German language (any level) plus GR310 (4 credits) – a course on culture and civilization that provides an academic framework for experiencing Austria. Daily excursions to sites such as the Danube, Baroque monasteries, Medieval ruins, Rococo palaces, art museums and – of course – great music. Join Professor Jon Sherman (jsherman@nmu.edu). May 11-June 6. Approximate fee: $2,500 in addition to airfare, personal spending and 4 credits of NMU summer tuition.
PERU - 2 programs planned for Summer 2009.
Join Anthropology Professor Alex Carroll(krcarrol@nmu.edu) June 1 – 25 on a field-studies course in the land of the Incas. Explore sacred sites, including the mystic Machu Picchu, and learn practices and culture from the ground up. Approximate fee: $4,100 in addition to airfare, personal spending, and 4 credits of NMU summer tuition.
Alternative Healing in the Land of the Incas - Join Professors Kathleen Thompson (kthompso@nmu.edu) and Barbara Wittler (bwittler@nmu.edu) from July 24-August 15 on an exploration that will take you inside indigenous healing practices from Shaman to herbal remedies. Explore Machu Picchu, the floating Uros island community of Lake Titicaca, and much more. Approximate fee: $3,800 in addition to airfare, personal spending, and 4 credits of NMU summer tuition.
