Program Requirements
The education specialist degree in literacy leadership primarily serves educators who aspire to become literacy specialists or literacy/reading program curriculum directors. It also serves educators who wish to advance beyond the master of arts degree.
Foundations of literacy, organization and supervision of literacy programs, a clinical practicum, and the study of policies as they relate to literacy are just some of the topics that will be explored in the coursework. An internship that offers individuals the ability to grow professionally and to become active in the professional literacy community is required. The education specialist internship or the education specialist seminar in literacy may offer opportunities for an international experience to be incorporated into the course of study. The program’s strong theoretical and methodological base for practicing literacy teachers or program directors forms the basis for subsequent doctoral work.
