While many people are involved in raising money for cancer research and awareness about the various forms of the disease, Professor Robert Winn and his ongoing team of researchers are focusing on cancer in a very hands-on way. Enter Nicholas Cook, Winn’s current Freshman Fellow, to join in the cancer research efforts.

dreamcatcherhp In most high schools, Native American culture/literature is a quick week or so project. However, for Steve Wynne, his Freshman Fellowship with Professor April Lindala will be a year-long project of delving into historic Indian culture and analyzing this type of subject matter.

Bree Ebrecht, a NMU freshman and aspiring psychiatrist, is currently endeavoring with her mentor Dr. Adam Prus in researching various medications for schizophrenic symptoms. With grants from National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and new state-of-the-art equipment, the team's progress has taken a positive edge.

Jacob LeysJacob Leys, graduate of Carson City – Crystal High School, looks forward to attending Northern Michigan University this fall where he will major in pre-med. He will research mitochondrial DNA variation in European house mice with his faculty mentor, Katherine Teeter.
