A Message from the NMU Parents Fund Co-chairs

Dear NMU Parent,

As fellow NMU parents, let us officially welcome you to the Northern Michigan University family!

Your NMU student is about to embark on one of life’s most enriching and rewarding experiences. In these first few weeks and beyond there is the anticipation of meeting new friends, the nervousness of finding classrooms and the excitement of realizing all of their hard work to date has paid off.

You and your student have made a wonderful choice in joining NMU. The faculty and staff are focused on a high tech, high touch, high quality experience for every student. Both of us attended NMU 30 years ago, with many fond memories, and now our son Travis is in his third year at NMU. His experiences have covered all the facets of being a student - from challenging class work to weekends camping in the wilds of the U.P. We are very familiar with the anxiety that comes with allowing our child to chart his own course. We are also so familiar with the pride and satisfaction that we feel as we watch our child become passionate about learning and creating real change in the world. 

This fall when your son or daughter becomes acquainted with the NMU campus, we hope you will share in the experience with them. The NMU Parents Fund provides a way for parents to participate in their child’s learning experience. The Parents Fund supports a variety of activities like student travel, academic learning, cultural awareness programs, health promotion initiatives, student leadership opportunities and, of course, a little fun. The success of this program has been tremendous since it was established in 2006, and we hope you will join us in supporting the Parents Fund when you are called by the Foundation this fall. So once more, welcome to Northern Michigan University!  We look forward to seeing you at future events, encourage you to take advantage of the many resources available to parents and wish your student a rich and meaningful Wildcat experience.

How NMU parents are making a difference

Parents of NMU students, past and present, have a strong tradition of supporting their children, and the university. The Parents Fund is unique in that it allows NMU to broaden the opportunities available to current students, from scholarship to student life to career services. Past support of this fund has provided funding for:

• Academic Programming

• Student Travel Initiatives

• Social and Cultural Awareness Activities

• Student Life
