Outgoing Trustees End Terms...

University President, Les Wong, and NMU Foundation Board President, Tom Ungrodt, recognized the Trustees for their years of support and for helping to guide fundraising at NMU to a new level of achievement.

The outgoing Trustees were:

Wil Carne

Wil Carne '54 - 19 years on the Board

Wil is the owner of Carne's Amoco in Escanaba, MI. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in English from NMU in 1954. He and his wife, Arlene, have been active in local civic and professional organizations for many years. Wil received the Distinguished Citizenship Award from NMU in 1990 and was named Citizen of the Year by the Escanaba Elks chapter in 1996.

Robert Glenn

Robert Glenn - 11 years on the Board

Bob is a Professor of English Emeritus at NMU. He received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University in 1949 and his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Michigan in 1953 and 1961, respectively. He and his wife, Rosemary, have been very active in the regional and national education and arts community for many years.

Gloria Jackson

Gloria Jackson '68 - 19 years on the Board

Gloria was born in Marquette and graduated from NMU in 1968 with a degree in Business Administration. She is the President of CableAmerica Corporation, operating throughout the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. She is an Honorary Consul of Finland for the State of Arizona. Gloria plays an active role in the advancement of regional higher education. In addition to her continued support of Northern, she received a Lion Award from Suomi College (now Finlandia University) and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Finlandia University. She continues to be very involved in the NMU Alumni Association and is a former president of the Phoenix Chapter. She received an NMU Alumni Service Award in 1986.

Ken Seavoy

Ken Seavoy - 15 years on the Board

Ken is an attorney for Kendricks Bordeau, PC in Marquette and is a former Vice-president of the NMU Development Fund (now the Foundation) Board and continues as an NMU Adjunct Professor in Estate Planning and as Marquette Assistant City Attorney. Ken has played a critical role in the development of the NMU Foundation, offering invaluable counsel to the Board, especially on organizational matters and planned giving.

William Verrette

William Verrette - 15 years on the Board

Bill is Chairman and CEO of Champion, Inc. based in Iron Mountain, MI. Bill is a leading figure in regional business, finance and entrepreneurship and is a former national director of the Associated General Contractors of America and Committee Chairperson for the Governor's Commission on Small Business and Entrepreneurial Affairs. He is also a member and former President of the Iron Mountain Board of Education. Bill received the NMU Distinguished Citizenship Award in 1998.

William Weaver

William Weaver - 32 years on the Board

Bill recently retired from Larson, Hetrick & Weaver where he was Executive Vice-president from 1972 - 1994. In addition to supporting numerous regional clubs and institutions, he has been closely involved with NMU for many years through a variety of groups and organizations, including the Development Fund and the NMU Foundation. Bill is a member of the Golden Wildcat, Gridiron and the First Nighters clubs. He is a member of the NMU Kaye Society and is a charter member of the NMU President's Society. He was President of the NMU Development Fund from 1991-1994.

Frank Young

Frank Young '58 - 12 years on the Board

Frank is retired as Vice-president of McMaster-Carr Supply Company. He received his bachelor's degree from NMU in 1958. His wife, Roberta, also graduated from NMU in 1958. During his past several years as a Trustee, Frank has taken on an expanded leadership role on the Board, serving as Secretary/Treasurer and also as Secretary of the Board Executive Committee. He has been serving as the Chair of the Finance Committee, helping to carefully guide the university's endowment to consistent market-beating returns in often challenging economic environments.
