New legislation was recently passed increasing Federal student loan eligibility.  Students may have additional loan eligibility available under the Direct Loan Program.

Financial Aid Office Hours
The NMU Financial Aid Office will be open from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (ET), Monday-Friday from May 5- August 15.  Effective August 18 the office will be open from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  We are located in 2107 C.B. Hedgcock. When you visit our office, we ask to see a photo I.D. and you will also need to inform us of your NMU identification number. You can find your NMU IN by clicking on View Account Status at http://myuser.nmu.edu

2008-2009 Financial Aid Award Notification
New freshmen and transfer students for the 2008-2009 Academic Year are notified regarding the outcome of their financial aid application starting in mid/late March.  All notifications from the Financial Aid Office will be mailed to new students until they arrive on campus.  Once a new student enrolls/attends Orientation, they are able to access the MyNMU system.  However, they will continue to receive paper letters until they arrive on campus.  Once on campus, all further correspondence from the Financial Aid Office will come through their NMU e-mail account.  Continuing students will be awarded after completion of the winter semester.  Correspondence to continuing students from the financial Aid Office will come through their e-mail account.  Students should check their NMU e-mail account regularly.  They can also view their financial aid information by checking their MyNMU

Financial Aid And Enrollment Changes
If you are making any adjustments to your summer semester schedule, please review the Drop and Add Policy

We will not recalculate Federal Pell, ACG, or SMART Grants based on a change in enrollment that occurs after June 2, 2008.

  • March 1 - Recommended date for completion of the FAFSA for 2008-2009
  • April 21 - All documents requested by the Financial Aid Office are due.
  • June - Financial Aid awarding begins for returning students
  • June 2 - Financial Aid freeze date/last day to make adjustments to your summer schedule
  • June 2 - Deadline for Summer Financial Aid Application

Making Progress

Federal law requires all students who receive financial aid to make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward their degree. Students at NMU must meet all of the SAP requirements.
