New Playing Surface For Wildcat Football Team

The existing synthetic turf and mechanical conversion system in the Superior Dome was recently replaced with a new system.  The replaced 18 year-old turf exceeded its life expectancy of 10 - 12 years: however it was splitting and tearing more with each conversion causing un-safe conditions for the athletes.  The new  Pure Grass 3D synthetic turf was produced and installed by the AstroTurf Company.

Quad II Lobby Renovation

The Quad II lobby's recently received a much needed facelift.  The project went  out to bid in early April. The buildings renovation was intended to update the Meyland  / Magers, and Hunt / Van Antwerp lobbies which were constructed in 1966 and 1967. These renovations provide a healthier, more attractive, welcoming, comfortable environment.  The renovations increase opportunities for students to relax by simply sitting in a corner with their laptop or by being a part of a discussion, study group, or game night with improved aesthetics and enhanced comfort through increased natural light, improved ventilation, and improved lighting.

Campus of the Future

arial of plan

NMU's current campus master plan was developed and adopted by the Board of Trustees in the early 1990s to help guide campus development over the last decade. As demands on the university have evolved throughout the years, a formal review of the plan to develop an updated guide for the next 10 to 15 years was warranted. Progress on the update has been ongoing.

Improved Security

Housing and Residence Life is in the process of increasing the security
within all residence halls and Woodland Park Apartments.  A closed circuit television/camera system has been installed in all of the residence halls along with a card access system at all perimeter doors.  The door access system will record who has entered when a card is swiped along with notifying staff when a door has been forced or propped open.  The closed circuit system is installed and operating while the door  access system is planned to be turned on live beginning in January 2009.
