Keith Norton joined the aviation faculty in the Technology and Occupational Sciences Department as an Assistant Professor on a three-year in the fall of 2009. Norton earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Kentucky University and a certificate in Aviation Maintenance Technology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He brings to NMU fifteen years of aviation experience as a pilot, mechanic and maintenance instructor. In addition, he has a comprehensive background in computer science and in developing, implementing and marketing distance learning. Keith has been teaching at the University of Alaska Anchorage since 2005 and is the owner/operator of an aircraft restoration business specializing in single-engine aircraft and components.
Norton was interested in NMU for the location, rural atmosphere, and support of technology in the classroom. He was also intrigued by the aviation department’s relationship with American Eagle, and remarks that NMU has “a quality aviation program with excellent faculty.”
Norton strives to combine his knowledge of technology and aviation in his classes and looks forward to the possibility of using simulation in the future. “Not just flight simulation but virtual goggles,” which make it possible for students to walk around large aircrafts and see the engines.
