SSWSO impacts Marquette community

The Student Social Work/Sociology Organization has many activities planned to impact the Marquette area. The group will be involved with Central UP Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, Women's Center/Harbor House and Make-A-Difference Day. Weekly meetings take place from 1:45-2:45 Mondays in the Learning Resource Center room 235A. Contact Advisor Dr. Deanna Trella

	Ghost Dancing Dr. Alex Ruuska completes article on ghost dancing as part of her on-going work on Native American culture. Learn more . . .
	Rural Homelessness Research Dr. Tim Hilton, Professor Cornell DeJong, and Dr. Deanna Trella were recently awarded a $9000 grant from the Center for Rural Community and Economic Development to study the family context of homelessness in the Upper Peninsula. (This collaborative project is an extension of research by Hilton and Dejong.) Read more here.
	Preventing Bullying Dr. Alan McEvoy was a speaker for the U.P. Children's Coalition Conference May 13. In collaboration with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, NMU, and local schools, Dr. Alan McEvoy organized a forum on bullying in schools and the workplace, April 5, 2011. 	Gerontology Presentations Engaging high school students in the world of gerontology is the focus of recent works by Dr. Patricia Cianciolo. See details here.
	Globalization's Impact on Women Dr. Renxin Yang is now completing a study on how world social change touches the personal lives of women in China.
