Outstanding Graduates Named

Mary MorrisonLauren Mattioli

Graduate student Katy Morrison was named the Political Science and Public Administration Department’s  Outstanding Graduate Student while Lauren Mattioli was selected as the Outstanding Graduating Senior.  They were recognized at NMU’s Honors Banquet.  While pursuing her master’s in public administration, Morrison served as a graduate assistant in the Center for Student Enrichment.  Mattioli, the president of NMU’s Model United Nations for three years, is graduating summa cum laude with a pre-law major.  More on Morrison and Mattioli

Student Interns Meet Board Chair

Interns meet board

Mary Lukens, recent chair of the NMU Board of Trustees, met with the student interns she help send to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions when she was on campus for one of the board's fall semester meetings.  Lukens worked with the NMU Political Science Department to place students with national media, as well as on the staffs of both major parties.  She also provided financial support for the internships.  Read more about the student interns' activities at the conventions

Three expert panelists presented Great Lakes Symposium: Politics and Policy of Protecting the Great Lakes during the fall semester. The panelists were David Dempsey, journalist and author of Great Lakes For Sale: From Whitecaps to Bottle Caps; Ken Sikkema, national expert on water and environmental issues, policy expert and former senate majority leader; and Tom Baldini, former chairman of the International Joint Commission.
