Interests

Dr. Jim has published on Ancient, Medieval and Comparative Philosophy.
His teaching and research interests include Ancient Greek and Early
Medieval Philosophy, Asian Philosophy, Comparative Philosophy,
Aesthetics, Ethics (Communication Ethics, Deliberative Dialogue) and
Islamic Philosophy, especially the religious and philosophical
foundations of nonviolent action in the work of figures such as
Thoreau, Tolstoy, Gandhi, Khan, King, and Hanh.

Selected Publications/Presentations

He is currently finishing a book-length manuscript titled The Humane
Experience of Tragedy: Tragedy, Katharsis and the Maturation of
Character.  He is also finishing an academic game for the Reacting to
the Past series titled The Struggle for Civil Rights.
