Busy Week of Concerts

Orchestra

The NMU Music Department will close out the semester with a plethora of concerts this week.  The University Orchestra kicks off the activities on Wednesday (April 22).  On Thursday (April 23), the Lake Effect Show Choir holds a cabaret dinner concert.  The Marquette Choral Society, University Choir and Madrigal Singers combined for a musical extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday (April 25-26).  Concert details

Outstanding Student Success in Music

Randy Monroe graduated magna cum laude in December 2008 with a bachelor's degree in music education.  Pursuing music at the university level has been a rewarding experience that has included meeting life-changing teachers who encouraged  him to grow and guided him to achieve.  Before Northern, he attended Grand Valley State University and was a multiple Dean's List recipient.  He also attended Grand Rapids Community College and received an Outstanding Leadership in Music award.

The 13th Annual NMU Jazz Festival was held on Friday, April 17, and featured special guests pianist Bill Carrothers (pictured) and composer/arranger Fred Sturm. High school and middle school jazz bands and combos participated in clinics, master classes, performances and jam sessions.

Upcoming Events

Are you interested in joining the NMU's Wildcat Marching Band?  Band Camp begins August 17!  You must be registered for Marching Band - MU 114 (Course Reference Number: 80758).  The band rehearses MWF from 4:00 - 5:30 pm, Thursdays in the Superior Dome from 6:30 - 9:00 pm and also on Saturdays of home football game weeks.

Music Scholarship Auditions

Scholarship auditions will again be held winter semester 2010. The schedule for next years auditions for the fall 2010 and winter 2011 semesters are as follows:

  • 11:00 am on Nov. 7, 2009
  • Noon on Feb. 20, 2010
  • 11:00 am March 20, 2010
