NMU ROTC Participates in Trenary Outhouse Race

Not All Outhouses Are Created Equal

NMU ROTC participated in the 15th Annual Trenary Outhouse Race this Sat. 24 Feb. Members from the Wildcat Battalion had to created a wooden outhouse to compete in this local event. Their creation won first place in the design category. However, like the Jamacian Bobsled Team in the 1988 Winter Olympics, they sadly did not place as well as they planned or hoped in the actual race.

The Trenary Outhouse Race is a local "Yooper" tradition. Racers are instructed to create an outhouse made of wood and cardboard. As a requirement, all outhouses must contain a toilet seat and roll of toilet paper inside to be deemed raceworthy. The outhouse is placed on wooden skis. Two racers then must push the outhouse 500ft to the end of the finish line as fast as possible. Proceeds from the race are given back to the Trenary community.
