Residents create a fun-loving, family like atmosphere that is unique to the campus community. Student involvement in West Hall is key to academic and social success. West is all co-ed and is building number 62 on the campus map.

Resident Director – Katie Puroll, 227-2821


Katie PurollKatie Puroll, originally from Southeast Michigan, came to NMU in 1999, and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Katie was a Resident Advisor in Dakota House in Halverson Hall for two years, and a Community Adviser in the 1600 Lincoln On-Campus Apartments for two years. After Katie completed her degree in 2004, she began working at a non-profit child welfare agency in lower Michigan, but has since returned to NMU to become the Resident Director in West Hall.

West Hall Traditions

History:

West Hall, opened in 1960, is named after Wilber D. West, the director of NMU’s Guidance and Counseling Center for a number of years and dean of students for a short time.

Traditions:

Interesting Facts:

  • West Hall is the only residence hall at NMU that has a view of Lake Superior.

  • West Hall is located where NMU’s football stadium once stood.
