Residents of Payne Hall know that learning continues outside of the classroom. While academically minded, Payne is “quiet, but not too quiet,” and offers an environment conducive to superior scholastic success. The community built here also offers ample opportunities for involvement. Payne Hall is a safe, comfortable place to live that fosters respect, leadership, and camaraderie. Payne Hall hosts an academic achievement house in which students need a 3.0 GPA to reside. Payne Hall has one all male house, one all female house and 4 coed-houses. Resident Director – Aaron Nowicki, 227-2516
Aaron is hails from Cheboygan, Michigan. He attended Michigan Technological University where he received a bachelor's degree in computer science. While there, he served as a resident adviser for two years and a staff supervisor for one year. Aaron is starting his second year as the resident director of Payne Hall and is finishing work on his MBA.

History:
Payne Hall was opened in 1965 and is named after Lucille Payne, who taught English and speech at the J.D. Pierce School and later was an instructor in NMU’s English department.
