Meyland Hall

Meyland HallMeyland Hall embodies a unique balance between scholastic enterprise and all the fun of the college years, providing residents with a clean, comfortable environment that quickly comes to feel like home. It is founded upon a broad history of tradition, with the most important of these being our tradition of true student creativity; in Meyland great ideas become reality every day. From the Outback to the Tundra, the Boondocks to the Backcountry, Meyland Hall is the perfect outlet to get the most out of the Northern Experience.” Meyland was fully renovated in the summer of 2006. Note: Due to the type of furniture in the Meyland Hall rooms, lofts are not permitted. Loft kits manufactured to fit the beds are available for rent. Meyland is all co-ed and is building number 70 on the campus map.

Meyland Hall Traditions

History:

Meyland Hall is named after Gunther Meyland, a professor of English for 37 years.  It opened in 1966.

Traditions:

  • Meyland/Magers Wars
  • Valentine's Day Spaghetti Dinner
  • Meyland Hall Diversity banner- This banner is signed by a large number of Meyland residents (past and present,) and is displayed  where everyone can see as they enter the hall. The students really take pride in it, and Meyland tries to host events each year that center around diversity awareness for the hall.
  • Monthly “all-hall” discussions in the lobby draw a large number of residents. Meyland residents talk about current events and what students would like to do to become proactive in the residence hall community

Interesting Facts:

  • Meyland Hall shares space with the United States Olympic Education Center.
  • Olympic Speedskaters Apolo Anton Ohno and Shani Davis lived in Meyland.

  • As of October 15, 2007 Meyland Hall became one of the first residence halls in the Midwest to become LEEDs certified.
