Magnaghi

Magnaghi in Documentary
Public broadcasting WNMU-TV recently aired a new documentary, The U.P. Recalls the War. History professor Russell Magnaghi was interviewed for the production. He discussed victory gardens, German POW camps in the U.P. and the soldiers on skis from the 10th Mountain Division. The documentary also included interviews of Upper Peninsula residents sharing images and stories from the battlefields of Europe to U.P. towns during World War II.

Oral History Archives

Audio ArchivesIndividuals interested in accessing the NMU and Regional Oral History Collection can visit NMU Archives, located on the first floor of the Learning Resource Center. History professor Russell Magnaghi and Northern’s Audio-Visual Department created the collection, which contains numerous interviews documenting the history of NMU and the central Upper Peninsula. The Northern audio collection consists of faculty, staff, alumni and student life interviews. It also contains historical interviews concerning the university and the former J.D. Pierce School. The U.P. oral history collection includes tapes of interviews pertaining to the Ishpeming Ski Hall of Fame, iron mining, local celebrations and events.
