Department Awards and Honors

Three students from the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department were recognized as recipients of the campus-wide Teaching, Learning and Communication technology awards program, which honors innovative use of the notebook computers provided to students to achieve learning outcomes.

The trio of HPER students were:
Aaron Clemins, a health and fitness management major, "Decreasing Injury Risk Factors for Golf through Fitness Education" project

Traci Maki, a school health major, "Improving Social Interaction in Children with Autisum Spectrum Disorder through Social Health Education"

Shelby Mitchell, community health education major, "Decreasing Risk Factors for Sexual Assault in College Women through RAD Education"

All three projects were part of the HL 367 course.

Outstanding Graduating Senior Award

The recipient of the HPER Department's  Outstanding Graduating Senior Award was Jason Sallgren of Menominee, Mich., a sports science major.   Jason is now enrolled in NMU's exercise science graduate program.
