Gamma Theta Upsilon

GTU is an international honor society in geography. As one of NMU student organizations, GTU shares leadership in various areas such as:

  • Organizing colloquiums
  • Organizing graduate study information night
  • Augmenting undergraduate student publications
  • Supporting promotion of geography to the public including high school students
Requirements:
  • You must have completed at least three geography courses
  • You must have a minimum of a B average (3.3 GPA) in geography courses
  • You must rank in the upper 35 percent of your class
  • You must have completed at least three semesters of college courses

Superior Geography Club

The Superior Geography Club is an organization of students who are interested in geography within the greater context of the world around them. The club is open to all majors and minors and is a great way to get to know people, have a fun time and learn a little bit about geography along the way.

NMU Rock and Mineral Club

The NMU Rock and Mineral Club is an organization of students, faculty, staff and local residents who are interested in minerals and rocks. Members have fun while socializing and learning about the geology of the Marquette area and the Upper Midwest region. The club is involved in local and campus activities and takes frequent field trips to areas of local geologic interest for mineral collecting, tours of mines and other activities. The club meets at least once per month during the academic year, and members meet informally for field trips during the summer. There is a nominal annual membership fee.

  • Logo design contest
  • Several field trips
  • Participate in Homecoming activities
  • Participated in scavenger hunt.
  • Donated goods to an area needy family at Christmas
  • Eben Ice Cave field trip
  • Participated in Kaleidescope with the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club
  • Tea with Olive Sain (an elder member of Ishpeming Club and avid rock hound)
  • Several socials and rock swaps

  • Anyone interested in geology, physical geography, and rocks and minerals.
