Microcontroller Class Project

Students in Jack Gumaer's ET420 Microcontroller Applications class assisted NMU Art and Design student Zachary Smith to automate his kinetic sculpture, titled Evanescent, that is being displayed in April at the 2011 Salone Satellite international design show in Milan, Italy.

Gary Herschell Jr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Herschell Sr. of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, has been named Northern Michigan University’s Secondary Teacher Education Award recipient.

SAE Club Competes at MTU Winter Baja

The NMU SAE Baja Wildcat Racing Team raced two cars in the 2011 MTU Winter Baja race held in Lake Linden on February 19.

Renewable Energy Courses at NMU

The ET222 Wind Power class recently installed a Southwest Windpower AirX microturbine on the roof of NMU’s Jacobetti Center as part of the hands-on lab activities in the course.

Baja Team Community Service

Recently the NMU SAE Baja team along with members of the Negaunee Lions Club cleared 6 miles of cross-country ski trail for the Noquemanon Ski Marathon.

Engineering Technology Receives DOE Grant

Northern Michigan University has received a $670,000 grant from the Department of Energy to enhance its power technician program that was launched in the fall of 2009. The program was developed in consultation with members of the electrical power industry to provide employees that can fill critical positions for building and maintaining the electrical power grid of today and move the country to the smart grid that will be required for the future. NMU Electronics Lab Hosts Boy Scouts

Several area Boy Scouts learned about electronics and earned their Electronics Merit Badge during an annual Merit Badge Activity Day held in the Jacobetti Center on NMU's campus.

Members of the MET200 Introduction to Alternative Energies class explore what it takes to build wind farms. Renewable energy courses are offered throughout the year at NMU. Check out video presentations on student projects.


Energy Works Grant

The Department of Engineering Technology was recently awarded a grant to publicize its innovative minor in Alternative Energy.  The grant was awarded through the Michigan Renewable Schools program administered by Energy Works Michigan.
