National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization governed by a board of directors, the majority of whom are classroom teachers.  Other members include school administrators, school board leaders, governors and state legislators, higher education officials, teacher union leaders and business community leaders.  They also offer the Five Core Propositions of NBPTS.

The National Staff Development Council has created a website detailing their standards for effective teaching and a library of NSDC articles and various links to assist with staff development.

The Michigan Department of Education maintains a website detailing professional standards for Michigan teachers, as well as a code of ethics, mentoring procedures, and other related information.
