Programs

Northern Michigan University’s School of Education offers education degrees from the baccalaureate level to education specialist programs.  The School also provides various certification and professional/personal development programs in advanced study areas.

Online Programs

To meet the needs of currently working teachers, the School offers several online programs that allow for flexibility in continuing education without interrupting careers in K-12 education.

Master's Degree Programs

  • MS in Science Education
    • This 35-credit hour program includes two-week, optional on-campus courses during the summer session in addition to online courses.
  • MAE in Reading for K-8
    • A 34-credit program which qualifies graduates for the Michigan endorsement in reading (Code BT).
  • MAE in Reading Specialist for K-12
    • A 36-37 credit program that qualifies graduates for the Michigan endorsement in reading specialist (Code BR).
  • MAE in Learning Disabilities
    • A 35-credit program that qualifies graduates or the Michigan endorsement in learning disabilities. (Code SM).

Online Middle Grade Endorsement

This two-course, six credit hour middle grade endorsement series is designed to acquaint teachers with the special aspects of teaching at the middle school level. Both courses are offered online and the program meets the requirements for middle grade endorsement in several states.

Individual Online Courses

Education courses in a variety of subject areas are offered every semester.
