Dr. Schaefer received her B.A.and M.A. from Northern Michigan University and continued her education with a Ph.D from Michigan State University. While at NMU, she was the first graduate assistant for the School of Education. She has worked in the field of Education for more than 40 years. She began her career as a high school level English teacher and recently retired as Superintendent of Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency, a position she held for 12 years.
Dr. Schaefer was born and raised in Baraga County. She was married for 33 years to Fred Schaefer, who passed away in 2001. She currently lives in Marquette with her orange tabby cat, Muffie.
