Prior to joining NMU, Dr. Capers served for 21years with the New York State Police. He holds the distinction of arresting and securing the confession of New York State’s most prolific serial killer in addition to managing and investigating other high profile criminal cases that garnered significant media and public attention. He has nine years of retail loss prevention experience that includes employment with Target Stores as a District Assets Protection Team Leader, The Home Depot as Manager of External Investigation/District Loss Prevention Manager, and most recently as the Director of Security for Federated Logistics and Operations. He teaches classes in law enforcement, investigations, and loss prevention.
Tom’s research interests include retail loss prevention, gang violence, and organizational leadership. Tom received his bachelors in Criminal Justice and his masters in Human Resources Management and Labor Relations from New York Institute of Technology in Westbury, NY, and his doctorate in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
