Before you register for your thesis credits, please follow the Thesis Procedure guidelines for Application.
The Thesis Application form is designed to establish your Thesis Committee and select your Thesis Chair. You must then indicate on the form your thesis topic, and attach a copy of your Thesis Prospectus. You are responsible for coordinating and obtaining the signatures of your Thesis Committee members. Once the form is completed it must be sent to the Criminal Justice Department for processing. Review Thesis Defense Deadlines.
It is imperative that graduate students become familiar with not only the process of completing an approved prospectus, but also the time it typically takes to complete it and the thesis. This process is often long and tedious, and almost always takes longer than one would at first think. Follow guidelines provided in the Prospectus Completion Guideline. Keep in mind these times are estimates, and completion times will vary.
After the Thesis Application form has been approved you need to fill out the Registration for Thesis credits form. You must sign the form and obtain the other signatures. Send the form to the criminal justice department head for signature and processing.
Please be advised that you must obtain signatures for these forms far enough in advance to ensure processing time. Refer to the appropriate deadlines for adding/dropping.
In addition, if you plan to graduate this semester, you must register for CA 000 Graduation. This will put you on NMU's list of potential candidates for graduation and will initiate your final degree audit. Regardless, if you march in the ceremony or not, you MUST still register to graduate. Be sure you select the appropriate course.
