The Loss Prevention Foundation Scholarship Committee has selected one of our own to receive a Loss Prevention Qualified Scholarship. Grant Patient is one of seven students nationally selected as part of the first ever Loss Prevention Foundation Scholarship program. The objectives of the committee are to recognize academic excellence, increase awareness for the loss prevention industry and to help attract quality students into the profession.
In reference to his reward, Patient states "I am thrilled to receive this scholarship from the Loss Prevention Foundation. It is a unique and valuable opening that will give me more opportunities in my profession that I otherwise wouldn't have." Patient was previously a graduate assistant for the loss prevention program at Northern Michigan University, where he was part of the team to promote Northern Michigan University's Bachelor in Loss Prevention Management degree, the first LP degree offered in the nation. He is now an adjunct instructor for NMU and is in the process of completing his Master in Criminal Justice degree in Criminal Justice at NMU. Needless to say, Patient is a focused, hard working individual that is well qualified to receive such an award.
The Loss Prevention Foundation is a not for profit organization founded to serve loss prevention professionals. Their mission is to advance the loss prevention profession by providing relevant, convenient and challenging educational resources. Their programs are designed to give individuals the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge about retail, business, leadership and loss prevention and give loss prevention professionals the resources they need to move forward in their careers. Recognizing his achievement, Patient declares, "Loss prevention is a great field that has continued growing with increasing opportunities for advancement. The certification gives an educational credibility that could be better suited for those not interested in the traditional college route, or simply an additional or different option for anyone interested in a loss prevention career."
When asked why he chose the Loss Prevention field, Patient stated, "After college, I found I wanted to do more investigative work. I was very interested in investigative work and found that the loss prevention field gave me immediate opportunities to fulfill that interest and the desire to make it a career."
Each recipient will be given access to the Loss Prevention Qualified (LPQ) courseware as part of their scholarship. This will provide an opportunity to increase his knowledge and gain tools necessary for further advancement in the Loss Prevention field.
