Greg Warchol receives the 2008 NMU Distinguished Faculty Award

Dr. Greg Warchol, associate professor of Criminal Justice received the 2008 NMU Distinguished Faculty Award. President Les Wong, Provost Susan Koch and the Board of Trustees recognized his significant professional contributions to Northern Michigan University in the areas of teaching, research and service. This award also reflects the respect and confidence of both his faculty colleagues and the university administration.

Greg has been with the department since 1998 and throughout his years has made significant contributions to the undergraduate and graduate criminal justice curriculum. He is an excellent teacher and students have consistently given him high marks on his evaluations. He was also instrumental in developing and implementing the Master in Criminal Justice degree. He volunteered and serves on various department committees and contributed greatly to the department’s success. Dr. Dale Kapla, acting department head, describes him as undoubtedly the most productive criminal justice faculty member for his scholarship. He presented 15 academic papers, engaged in roundtable discussions and presented several posters and multimedia presentations at regional and national criminal justice conferences. He has published numerous articles and research reports in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he has secured $75,700 in research grants resulting in numerous publications and conference presentations to further supplement his exemplary research record.

In addition to a monetary award, Dr. Warchol will be recognized at a special reception at the President’s home, and again during the Trustee's meeting during the Honors Breakfast. He will also be introduced by the president during the May Commencement ceremonies for his achievements.
