Hunt Award

Alexander Buck is the 2007 winner of the Lucian S. Hunt Award. This award is given to a graduating senior who is outstanding in academic achievement, committed to the chemical profession, and has a high potential for success in chemistry or chemistry-related research as a career. In addition, the award recipient must have completed two semester of undergraduate physical chemistry. Alex studied organic synthesis of fullerenes under the direction of Dr. Donald Marquardt as an undergraduate and is current attending the University of Michigan as a graduate student. Alex is from Marquette, Mich.

Outstanding Graduating Senior

Alexander Buck is also the 2007 outstanding graduating senior in chemistry. This award is typically given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average in a chemistry major. Alex graduated summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA while double-majoring in ACS-chemistry and French.

Award winnersAlchemist Award

Eric Schacht and Ian McLaren are co-recipients of the 2007 Alchemist Award. This award recognizes academic excellence in two semesters of organic chemistry. Eric is an undeclared major from Marquette, Mich., and Ian is a major biology/physiology from Northville, Mich.

Analytical Award

Thanh-Hang Le, a forensic biochemistry major, is the winner of the 2007 Analytical Chemistry Award. This award recognizes academic excellence in analytical chemistry (quantitative analysis and chemical equilibrium. Thanh-Hang intends to pursue a career in forensic chemistry and hails from Tacoma, Wash.

General Chemistry/First-Year Chemistry Award

Breann Maki is the 2007 First-Year Chemistry Award winner. This award recognizes academic excellence in two semesters of general chemistry or a student's first two semester of chemistry. Breann is a biochemistry major from Marquette, Mich.

John R. Ogren Award

Tony Schindler is the 2007 winner of the John Ogren Award. The award is given to an academically outstanding student majoring in chemistry or physics. Tony double-majored in chemistry and physics, graduating summa cum laude and, therefore, a perfect candidate for this year's award. Tony is currently attending Stanford University as a graduate student in biomedical engineering. Tony hails from Chippewa Falls, Wis.
