Andrew Sikkema graduated summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0 GPA in biochemistry, and as the first student to win all four departmental academic awards. Sikkema has been involved in several research projects, including examining protein and genetic mechanisms of human brain tumor growth as a Freshman Fellow with Dr. Rob Winn and as a summer Merck/AAAS research fellow where he worked on insect chitin-binding proteins. In a third project he examined the thermodynamics of protein-drug interactions and with this work won first place in the undergraduate poster presentation. He will begin attending the University of Michigan this fall to earn his doctorate.
