2008 Summer Institutes for Educators

Each day features dynamic keynote speakers in a large-group format for all institute participants

Registration and refreshments will begin at 7:30 am each day outside of Jamrich Hall Lecture Room 102.  Keynotes will begin promptly by 8:15 am.  After the daily keynote, AIE participants will proceed to their individual classes in Jamrich Hall for the rest of the day and Ed Leadership participants will proceed to the MEAD auditorium of Seaborg Science Center.

AIE participants may select from a number of classes that run for all four days (two credits*), classes that run two days (one credit*) and classes that run for just one day (.5 credit*). The Educational Leadership Institute is designed to bring current and aspiring school administrators together to discuss educational issues in school administration and leadership. School administrators and teachers who are interested in becoming administrators are encouraged to attend.

After registering for credit*, complete the Educational Leadership registration form and mail it along with your payment to the address indicated on the form.


*NOTE: If you have never taken a graduate course at NMU, you will need to complete a Graduate Application for Admission. You may apply on line at: http://www.nmu.edu/graduate_studies/   (Click on “How to Apply”) or call the Graduate Studies office at 906-227-2300.

Once you are admitted, you may register for the institute on line at: my.nmu.edu.  First time users will need to find their Username and create a password.  This can be done by clicking on the tab “MyUser,” and selecting the “New User” line.  You can also register over the phone by calling the Student Services Center at 906-227-1221.


A word about NMU college credits and SBCEU's

NMU credits: New teachers with a provisional certificate working toward their professional certificate are required to complete 18 college credits over an 8-9 year period. 4 of the 18 credits may be 900 level classes, typically titled 989s.

SBCEUs/900 level/500 level: Teachers with a professional certificate may take any combination. All teachers with a professional certificate are required to complete 6 credits every 5 years to maintain certification.

2008 Summer Institutes for Law Enforcement

REGIONAL POLICE ACADEMY
May 4 - August 20

The Regional Police Academy is a 16-week, 800-hour police training school designed to provide basic law enforcement training to in-service and pre-service recruits. At the successful completion of academy training, a recruit becomes certifiable as a police officer through the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). This training is transferable to most other states.
