Appraisal Education Program

It is official - CE requirements in Michigan are now in compliance with the AQB. This applies to State Licensed, Certified Residential and Certified General Licenses. "For a license that has been issued 185 days or as of the license expiration date, 14 hours of continuing education is required to renew the license. If an appraiser has been issued a license of a different category "upgraded" and that license will expire 185 days or more from the issue date, the appraiser must complete 14 hours of continuing education to renew the license."

Northern's goal, with the help of Michigan Association of Real Estate Appraisers (MAREA), is to continue to provide appraisers with quality educational opportunities that are convenient and affordable.

Fall 2008 - September thru November

At their annual meeting on July 12, 2008, MAREA members agreed to go forward with Business Valuation Expert designation program.  MAREA members are encouraged to attend the special purpose meeting on August 25, 2008, at McGuire's Resort in Cadillac learn more and participate in finalizing the plans for this designation.  This designation may be the opportunity to expand your current business.  Learn more on the MAREA page.

MAREA was founded in 1993 with the gathering of 35 appraisers interested in forming a statewide association that would not only provide timely and useful continuing education at several sites around the state, but also serve as a network. Since then, MAREA has grown to an association of more than 400 members coming from every part of Michigan.

MAREA is a non-profit corporation, whose purpose is to promote educational opportunities for Real Estate Appraisers of Michigan. Membership is open to all Michigan real estate appraisers. Associate members may include other interested persons and organizations such as lenders and government agencies. Members are invited to provide suggestions as to the types of classes available. They are provided with timely informational updates and a place to call with appraisal related questions.

The fiscal agency for MAREA is Northern Michigan University located in Marquette, Michigan. Logistical support is provided by NMU's Continuing Education and Sponsored Programs. The relationship between MAREA and NMU is unique. Northern provides educational courses and administrates MAREA. MAREA selects the type of courses needed and the best times and locations for these courses. All of our Appraisal Program instructors are MAREA members and all have an open-line policy involving questions or concerns from fellow members.

NMU offers a full range of residential and non-residential appraisal courses. In addition to licensure classes, NMU offers continuing education courses around the state.
