Who should take the BRC?
• New riders with little or no experience seeking a license endorsement. [Successful
riders receive a completion waiver, good for one year, for the riding skills portion of the
state motorcycle endorsement test.The written portion of the test is required.]
• Riders who have twice failed the SOS third party skills test.
• Experienced riders who have never had formal training and want to update their skills.
This class focuses on the development of the basic riding skills; turning, shifting and braking. Motorcycles are provided. There are approximately 20 hours of instruction - 8 classroom hours and 12 on the range. Participants must be at least 15 years of age and must be able to ride a two wheel bicycle. For students under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must sign a participation waiver which must be returned to the instructor before the student will be allowed on the range.
Class and Range
• Class sessions start on Friday 6 to 9:00 p.m., LOCAL TIME. Please arrive 15 minutes
prior to the start time.
• Saturday and Sunday start at 7:45 a.m. Both days are divided between range and
class and will last through 6 p.m.
• Bring a bag lunch, snacks and plenty of fluids as this course is physically demanding.
• You must possess the signed liability waiver form to be admitted to the class.
• To participate on the riding range, you must wear protective clothing.
Who should take the PB?
• Experienced riders seeking a license endorsement. [Successful riders receive a

• Experienced riders who want to learn advanced riding skills.
• Open to Michigan Riders only.
Topics include braking, counter steering, turning, speed judgment, and other techniques necessary for the experienced rider to operate a motorcycle skillfully and safely. All students will take a skills riding test covering the riding exercises used in the Michigan Secretary of State Motorcycle Skills Test. If a student under 18 years of age fails this riding skills test, the student must enroll in the Basic Rider Course and pay the $25 fee.
Class and Range
• Saturday is divided between range-time and classroom and will last through 5 p.m.
unless the RiderCoach specifies differently. Bring a bag lunch, snacks and plenty of
fluids as this course is physically demanding
• The class session starts at 8 a.m. CENTRAL STANDARD TIME at the Dickinson Iron
Technical Center. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time. Riding sessions will
be in the parking lot of Woodland Elementary School.
• Students must furnish their own motorcycle- sharing motorcycles is not allowed. The
cycle must pass a safety inspection prior to class.
• Rider MUST provide proof of insurance and registration for the cycle. If the cycle is not
owned by the rider proof of permission to ride must be presented.
• You must possess the signed liability waiver form to be admitted to the class.
• To participate on the riding range, you must wear protective clothing.
