One-Day Summit Focuses on Sports Concussions |

This one-day summit will take place Friday, April 29, and is a training event for physicians, nurses, athletic trainers, therapists, EMTs, first responders and athletic directors with the focus on sports concussions on how the Upper Peninsula health care and athletic professionals can improve diagnosis and evaluation. Keynote Speaker |

NMU alumnus Mark R. Lovell, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized sports concussion expert and founding director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program. The program is the first and largest program of its kind to both clinically manage and scientifically study the neurocognitive effects of sports-related concussion and develop better methods of post-concussion evaluation to determine when it is safe for an athlete to return to sports following a concussion. Dr. Lovell developed and implemented league-wide neurocognitive testing for both the National Football League and the National Hockey League during the 1990s. |
U.P. Standard of Care |

Summit participants will be involved in discussion of key issues in implementing a standard of care in the UP resulting in development. This feature will be moderated by Jan Hillman of Marquette General Health System. Discussion points will include resources currently available, individual organization’s current policies and procedures, and use of technology. |
Summit Vendors |

A wide variety of vendor displays will be available during the summit. Participants are encouraged to browse the vendor displays during the morning registration period (7:30-8 a.m.), during the two breaks (9 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.), during lunch (noon) and at the conclusion of the presentations (4:15 p.m.). |
