On Competition Day of the Second Annual New Business Venture Competition, five contestants presented their business plans to a panel of judges. The first prize of $4,000 was won by Alysa Diebolt, for her business M@M.   Full Story

Sam Graci Appointed Interim Dean
Dr. Sam Graci, professor of accounting, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Business. Dr. Graci, who has been on the faculty of the University since 1980, obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas, and served as the interim dean in 2004-05. Dr. Graci's appointment follows the resignation of Dr. Rajib Sanyal who has accepted a position to lead the College of Business at Ball State University.

Alumnus Provides Support for Insurance Programs
Mr. Ernie Telford '69, recently retired chairman of American Wholesale Insurance Group, is providing seed money for the establishment of undergraduate programs in insurance and actuarial science at Northern Michigan University. By providing both financial support and invaluable networking connections, Mr. Telford has created an unique opportunity for the College of Business to offer a distinctive academic program to meet the needs of the insurance industry. Steve DeCarlo chosen Fall 2009 Executive in Residence
Mr. Steve DeCarlo is the chief executive officer at American Wholesale Insurance (AmWINS) Group, based in Charlotte, N.C. The company is one of the nation's largest and most diversified wholesale insurance distributors in the country.Mr. DeCarlo will be visiting Northern Michigan University's campus September 14-15, 2009, meeting with College of Business students and faculty. Dr. Irvin Zaenglein

Fondly referred to as “Dr. Z.”, this upcoming fall semester marks Dr. Irvin Zaenglein’s 30th year of teaching at Northern Michigan University.  Upon completing his doctorate in Consumer Science at Purdue University, he was drawn to Northern by the school’s strong emphasis on high quality teaching. “Without a doubt, the classroom environment is still my favorite thing about Northern,” Dr. Zaenglein observes. “I continue to be pleased with the attitudes and abilities of my students.” Full story.

Robert Rustman ('04)

A 2004 graduate, Robert Rustman has used his marketing degree from Northern Michigan University to step into the human resource field.  Earlier this year he completed his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix with a concentration in Human Resource Management. Holding a Professional Human Resource Certification, Robert is fully qualified for his position at Securitas Security Services, USA, Inc., a global provider of security services. Employed by the company since early 2006, Robert works as an Area Human Resource Manager in Chicago, overseeing four branches of Securitas Security Services. Full story.
